Our Labrador puppies
will be implanted
with an AVID microchip
before being placed.

*THIS POLICY APPLIES TO ALL MATEER LABRADOR PUPPIES*

Do to their very small size,
we do not microchip our Cockapoo puppies
but suggest you have it done
by your Vet at time of spay or neutering.

We have found the AVID chip
used with the PETtrac safety net of protection
to be the best pet recovery system on the market
and as responsible breeders & pet owners,
we feel that we have an obligation
to ensure that our puppies
will have every chance for recovery
in the event they are ever lost or stolen.

The cost of the chip & implantation
is passed on to our customers.

The cost is $35.00.
The cost is comparable
and in most cases much less
than a Veterinarian would charge.

You may include this additional fee
at the time you submit your deposit,
or we can add this additional charge
to your final balance.

Your puppy packet will include an informative
AVID Friend Chip brochure with your PETtrac registration form,
and an "I Am Lost" collar tag
which includes your puppy's AVID number.

Here Are The Answers To The Most Frequently Ask Questions.
If you have additional questions, please email us.

What is the AVID® microchip?

A.V.I.D. stands for American Veterinary Identification Devices.
The AVID® microchip is a tiny computer chip
which has an identification number programmed into it.
The chip is encased in a smooth, strong biocompatible glass,
and is small enough to fit into a hypodermic needle.

The chip is no larger than a grain of rice.

We do not use the bulk non sterile chips
that must be loaded into the needle.

We only use the "Sterile Pacs".
Each sterile syringe contains one microchip preloaded into the needle.
Once one chip has been implanted,
the syringe & needle are thrown away.

Once your puppy is injected with the chip,
he can be identified throughout his life
by this one-of-a-kind number.
His identification cannot be lost, altered or intentionally removed.

How does the microchip work?

The microchip is generally injected deeply under the skin.
It sits safely there, totally inert.
A special scanner is used to send a radio signal
through the skin of the puppy to read the chip.
The puppy feels nothing as the scanner is passed over him.
The microchip sends it’s number back to the scanner.
It appears in the viewing window as, for example, AVID 220*609*321.

How long does the microchip last?

The microchip has no power supply, battery, or moving parts.
It is designed with an operating life of over 25 years
and is guaranteed for the life of your puppy.
Once injected, the microchip is anchored in place
as a thin layer of connective tissue forms around it.
The chip requires no care.
It does not pass through or out of the body.

How does the scanner work?

The AVID® scanner sends a safe radio wave signal to the microchip.
When the chip receives this signal,
it sends data (the microchip number) back to the scanner
to be displayed in a viewing window.
AVID® scanners emit helpful audible beeps,
display descriptions of actions in progress,
and have a low battery message.
Small handheld scanners are held close to the implant site while scanning.
They have a reading range of about 3 inches.
Larger, more powerful scanners
can be used for various commercial
and research applications.
Read ranges vary from 6 to 20 inches depending upon specifications.

Does the procedure hurt the puppy?

Although the microchip needle is larger than a typical vaccine needle,
the general rule is that a puppy will react
the same way to this injection
as they do to any other.
No better, no worse.
Animals do not over react to it.
Their physical performance is not impaired
and there is no scarring.
They are not injected with any substance
that can burn or irritate.
The chip is completely biocompatible and non-offensive.

Does the puppy have to be sedated for the injection?

No!, Absolutely not.
Injecting the AVID® microchip is just like any other injection or vaccination.
Anesthesia is not required or recommended.

Could my puppy be allergic to the chip?

The AVID® microchip is inert, smooth and biocompatible.
There is virtually no chance of the body developing an allergy
or trying to reject the microchip after being properly injected.

Can the microchip move around once inside the body of the puppy?

When properly implanted,
a small layer of connective tissue
forms around the microchip,
preventing movement or migration of the chip.
As with any brand of chip,
AVID® microchips will not migrate if implantation is done correctly.

When microchips are purchased, they will always be traceable
back to their facility of origin (Mateer Labradors),
unless the registration of the chip is changed.
It is important that you remember to send in the form
that we give you to PETtrac.
Otherwise, we will be contacted if a recovery is made.
We will scan the chip for you at time of pick up and explain all of the details.

We require that you register your puppy with PETtrac
within thirty days of purchase.

Please keep the brochure & PETtrac number handy.
It is important to call them with new information
if you change your address or phone number.

If you have a question concerning your pet's registration
or need to make changes in your registration information
contact PETtrac at 1-800-336-2843.
Please do not call AVID Microchip ID Systems.
They service qualified breeders and veterinarians only
and will refer private pet owners to PETtrac.

The AVID® PETtrac program is a global computerized system
for animals identified with the AVID® chip.
The animal is enrolled, for a small fee, under the new owner’s name
with complete detailed information
about both animal and owner.
In this way, if a shelter picks up the animal,
the owner will be contacted directly
without going through the breeder or veterinarian.

If the animal shelter picks up one of my animals, how do they know to call AVID®?

Animal shelters and animal control officers
have been educated and informed
about microchip identification and how it works.
The majority have universal AVID® scanners on hand
and routinely scan lost pets.
Once a microchip is located in an animal,
the appropriate steps are taken.
If the animal is registered with AVID's PETtrac™ Recovery System,
the shelter will be given the owner's name.
If the animal is not registered,
they will be given the name
of the veterinarian or the breeder
who injected the microchip.

Where is the injection site on my puppy?

Puppies are injected between the shoulder blades
with a deep subcutaneous (under the skin) delivery of the chip.

How early can puppies be injected with the chip?

Most breeders inject the chip between the ages of five and eight weeks of age.

We normally implant
while you are here
to pick up your puppy.

In the show ring, can the microchip be felt by the judge’s hands?

No... When the chip is properly implanted deeply under the skin,
no one will be able to locate the chip by touch.

How many brands of chips are there? Can shelters read the AVID® chip?

In the U.S. companion animal industry,
the chips of choice are manufactured by AVID® or Destron®.
AVID® makes, sells and distributes its own chips,
under the name of AVID®.
Destron® uses several different distributors that rename the products.
For example, the HomeAgain™ chip is made by Destron®,
but sold by Schering-Plough®.
So, although there are several different brand names on the market,
there are only two manufacturers, AVID® and Destron®.
Shelters use AVID's universal scanner which reads both.

We believe that using the AVID Microchip Identification system
is one the kindest, most important, worthwhile
things you can do for your puppy.

All of our Labs have been microchipped
and we wouldn't have it any other way.

We'd also like to stress
that the microchip is not a substitute
for protecting your dog
and keeping him safe at all times.

Regardless of how careful we are,
accidents do happen and in the event that they do,
your dog will have a much better chance
of being returned to you.

Pet theft is also rampant.
Labradors are especially at risk because they are
such a friendly, popular breed.

Even with the microchip, it is still a good idea to use a collar and name tag ~
but collars & name tags can easily be removed
and then the burden of proof of ownership
would be in your hands.

In our opinion ~ every pet should be microchipped.

Labradors are very intelligent animals ~
but as much as they would like to be able
to tell the animal control officer
who their Mommy & Daddy are
and where they live ~ it is just not possible.

The AVID chip can do their talking for them.

It is a very small price to pay
for a lifetime of protection.
